Description
I’m excited to offer this 1860s large Museum Quality carved cameo in agate/ hardstone with its natural color layer in white & grey blue.It depicts profile of "Bacchus" facing left (Dionysus is the Greek name), the God of Wine, the very rare subject of cameo (It is often common about the subject of Bacchante, followers of Bacchus).
His head crowned with a wreath of grapes vines. The carving is high relief with wonderful details. Each hair or leave of vine is intricately carved which is very hard seen in regular hard-stone profiles except master pieces. ( It's more beautiful than the photos shown.)
This is an incredible work of art; All the carving in this cameo is an artwork due to the skill of the carver.
The ornate gold frame is more than spectacular, the black enamel dotted with the peals give the final touch to this artwork.
The frame is hallmarked with the French 18k gold standard mark in a form of an eagle's head in use in France from 1838.
A very desirable collector’s piece, rare and museum quality cameo.
